Budgie McGhie led his side into the Scottish Cup Semi Finals with a gripping win over Peasie in Springburn earlier this afternoon
Much of the pre match attention had been on the home sides state of th eart plastic pitch, but Bankies were to return victorious and cost the bookies thousands of £££'s making a mockery of SKY bet's 6/1 odds for an away win.Bankies lined up with Charlie Hobbs and Chris Mackie up front with the rest of the team as was expected.
Cheered on by a noisy 700 or so travelling fans, Iain Anderson fired in the first effort of the day which Neil Parry did well to palm away with barely a minute gone.
Hobbs and Mackie were casuing the home side problems with pace while Anderson was the main man in the centre of the park. His through ball let Hobbs fire in an effort which the keepr again did well to put out for a corner.
The keeper didn't cover himself in glory with the next piece of action though. Hailstones took the corner from the left and with a little help from the wind the ball flew straight into the centre of the goal with the keeper in no mans land, Bankies in front with 13 minutes gone.
Stefan Gonet had to look smart to keep out an effort, beating the ball away for a corner. The game descended into a midfield battle with the wind making it difficult to play any real football though both teams did do well to put together some smart passing movements.
It was the Bankies fans who were in dreamland though as just after the half hour mark, the visitors went two up.
A throw in on the right found Hobbs on the byline, he cut back to Mackie who mishit his shot but watched in delight as it spun in to the top corner to send the Bankies fans wild ashe celebrated his first goal for the club.
Gonet again came to the rescue when he saved from Robert McPhee from around 3 yards out to keep the two goal lead intact at the turnaround.
The second half saw the wind get worse and Petershill attack. Gonet had another two great stops while several Peasie shots were high and wide.
Peasie had the ball in the net but it was chopped off. It could have been for offside or handball as both offences were committed as the ball wasknocked home.
Budgie sacrificed Charlie Hobbs for the return of John Cunningham tomakehisreturn and his presence was immense as the Bankies backline cleared time and again.
Mackie could have sealeditwhen a cut back from the left found the big striker but he fired haigh and well wide as the clock ticked down.
Selkirk the replaced Mackie before Anderson made way for Martin McIntyre as Bankies saw out time. Peasie threw on three subs as they tried to find a way back into it and finally they did.
With the 90 minutes on the clock bankies attack was broken down around 25 yards from the Petershill goal. A long ball forward and some head tennis later the ball was laid into the path of the ever prolific local boy Stevie Dallas to lob over Gonet from 22 yards with a fine finish.
Peasie pushed for an equaliser and forced a corner which everyone including the keeper went up for but Gonet held firm despite his opposite number one trying to put him in the net with the ball in his grasp.
Bankies pushed forward one last time and as the move broke down the fulltime whistle sounded and hundreds of Bankies fans entered the playing field to celebrate with their heroes as theymade the last 4 of the national competetion.
