Bankies took on the SPL Champion's Under 19 side in the final of the Cambuslang Garry Lynch Memorial Tournament. Despite Clydebank dominating the second period it went to penalties and The Gers won the shootout.
The first fifteen minutes were a quiet affair but the game almost came to life when Gary Lynn's free kick was headed across goal by Davie Green but Martin McComish just couldn't get on the end of it.
Scott Highlands tested the 'Gers young keeper with a long range effort that was turned round the post for a Bankies corner.
A cagey first half ended with the teams still tied at 0-0
Six minutes into the second half and Bankies put the ball in net. Stevie Dymock nodded Green's home only to be denied by an offside flag.
Budgie McGhie freshened things up replacing Dymock with Darian MacKinnon.
Bankies piled on the pressure with some near things. MacKinnon and McPherson linking up well as the second half wore on.
It was one way traffic as Bankies took the game to the youthful Rangers. Gary Lynn's free kick coming close with just nder 15 minutes left to play.
Rangers hit back and Liam Campbell saved well from a subs effort.
Bankies introduced Stevie Dallas, Mark Kilpatrick and Andy Selkirk for McPherson, Green and McComish on 78 minutes.
Subs Dallas and Kilpatrick combined well and almost forced a Rangers player into an own goal as the game enters the final ten minutes.
Lynn tested the keeper again with a powerful 20 yard effort that was turned round the post.
Paul Allum came on for Nikky Cairney with 180 seconds plus additional time to play.
Despite Bankies best efforts, the game finishes 0-0 and goes to penalties.
The young Gers won the shoot out 4-3 on spot kicks and I'm sure Garry being the Rangers man he was would have expected no different!
