Stevie Dallas headed the winner form a John Harvey corner after 14 minutes to stun the holders out of the Emirates Scottish Cup in front of almost 800 fans on Saturday....
Around 400 Bankies fans travelled to Beechwood for this Scottish Cup Final rematch. It's probably also fair to say that they travelled more in hope than expectation but it was to be their day as the final defeat was avenged.
The park passed a 9am inspection and then a further late inspection when the match referee arrived. Budgie McGhie's squad was threadbare and no.2 Stuart Allison again filled one of the jerseys
The match opened with both sides eager to give little away. Talbot had been scoring goals for fun, with 7 the week before while Bankies had conceded 3 in a 7 minute spell.
THe only goal of the game arrived after 15 minutes. Bankies won a corner on the right hand side in fornt of their vocal support. John Harvey's delivery was met by the head of STEVIE DALLAS whse goalbound header couldn't be cleared by former Bankies full back Liam McVey who was guarding the post.
Talbot fought back and Gonet made a good stop at his near post from McIlroy. The Bankies rearguard was on superb form all day with Sinky Soutar and Ross Campbell doing a sterling job and backed up by the rest of their teammates who fought for every ball.
Chris Mackie almost doubled the lead when he headed over the bar from another fantastic Harvey delivery. Bankies looked dangerous going forward but the final ball was often lacking. Talbot huffed and puffed and for all their posession at times didn't really trouble Gonet.
The second saw Talbot up the gear a little and thye thought they had levelled things when Gillies struck from McVey's pass but his effort came off the inside of the post and squirmed accross the face of goal before being cleared.
Stefan Gonet was again called into action as he comfortably saved a header from another Talbot corner.
Mackie again tried his luck when he attempted to chip Talbot keeper Strain after his poor clearance but the big strikers chip just had too much on it and sailed over the bar.
Gonet then had to block bravely at the feet of McKelvie at his near post and ABnkies came under pressure form a few Talbot corners.
Bankies held out though to inflict the holders first 90 minute home defeat in seven years and knock them out of the tournament while preserving our own unbetaen away record in the competition.
